Interactive Web Maps

Two public-facing web maps made to convey useful information in a simple, easy to easy understand format.

I recently finished up two projects for the Town of Little Elm: the Cottonwood Park Reservation Map, and the Brew and Que Vendor map. These two projects happened practically right after each other, and had very similar methods, workflows, and techniques, so it only made sense to put both of them on this page. In short, both are stylized maps with elements that users can interact with to gain meaningful information easily.

I’ll start out with the Cottonwood Map. For some background, the Town recently renovated and expanded one of it’s city parks, Cottonwood Park. As part of the expansion, 19 picnic tables and 4 pavilions were built. We were given the task of making a map of all the new tables and buildings, and making some way to link that to the website where residents and visitors can reserve tables. Sounds easy enough.

To start with, me and our other technician went out to the park during the final inspection and captured all the tables, structures, and restrooms, with our Trimble R2 and a Field Map. After spending half a day walking around, we headed back to the office and I got to work. Unfortunately, I don’t have many screenshots or videos of the process, so I’ll just try to describe it vividly enough.
